United Faculty and Academic Staff (UFAS) advocates for about 800 faculty and academic staff (instructional and administrative/professional) at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. We are affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers (AFT-Wisconsin, local 6481) and with the AFL-CIO.
We strive for a strong, healthy, vibrant university through shared governance and collective action.
We believe that investing in people--students, staff, and faculty--is the key to ensuring a bright future for UWEC and the state of Wisconsin.
We stand in solidarity with classified staff and students and strive to advance the interests of all who make UWEC a great place to work and learn.
We welcome all faculty and academic staff to join us as we work on behalf of our shared, mutual interests. Together, we seek to:
- Increase faculty and academic staff salaries, which lag behind those of our colleagues at our peer institutions by as much as 25%
- Improve job security for academic staff
- Decrease workload that fails to enhance our students' education
- Increase administrative transparency
- Remedy pay inequity and compression
- Restrain the incessant increases in payroll deductions for health care and retirement
- Secure a tuition waiver for children of faculty and staff
- Provide collegial support and access to legal advice when necessary
- Build solidary relationships with staff, students, and colleagues across campus
