About UFAS-UWEC

United Faculty And Staff of UW-Eau Claire (UFAS-UWEC) advocates for about 1,200 faculty, academic staff, and university staff at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. We are affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers (AFT-Wisconsin, local 6481) and the AFL-CIO.

We strive for a strong, healthy, vibrant university through shared governance and collective action.

We believe that investing in people--students, staff, and faculty--is the key to ensuring a bright future for UWEC and the state of Wisconsin.

We stand in solidarity with students and strive to advance the interests of all who make UWEC a great place to work and learn.

We support the values and tradition of Shared Governance in Wisconsin, so we act cooperatively as partners to try to strengthen the power of UWEC's University Senate, University Staff Council, and Student Senate.

We welcome all faculty and staff to join us as we work on behalf of our shared, mutual interests. Together, we seek to:

  • Increase wages and salaries, which lag behind our peer institutions and private-sector counterparts by as much as 20%
  • Remedy pay inequity and compression
  • Improve job security for academic staff and university staff
  • Increase the value and recognition given to the work done by academic and university staff
  • Foster respect and dignity for all workers
  • Defend academic freedom against attacks by politicians
  • Decrease workload that fails to enhance our students' education
  • Improve administrative transparency and communication
  • Provide collegial support and access to legal advice when necessary
  • Build relationships among people across campus
