University Staff employees are covered by different laws and policies than faculty and academic staff employees. Here are resources to help University Staff members understand their employment rights and relevant policies.
University Staff Sharepoint site--This is the most comprehensive list of resources for University Staff, including contacts for University Staff Council, shared governance information, meeting notices, and more. (UWEC log-in credentials needed)
UW System Administrative Policies & Procedures--SYS 1200 Series: University Personnel System--This link describes employment policies that cover all UW campuses other than Madison
University Staff Council--This is the website for the Shared Governance body that represents UWEC's University Staff employees
UW-Eau Claire's Knowledge Base articles on "Human Resources"--This contains articles about HR practices developed and practiced by UW-Eau Claire (often, our local implementation guidelines of a statewide policy directive)
UW-Eau Claire's webpage listing "University Staff Policies"--This website provides links to a few selected policies that also appear elsewhere; this is not an exhaustive list
Transition of Classified Staff to University Staff--This link to UW Administrative Policy 1285 documents what happened in 2015 when employees formerly called "Classified Staff" were reclassified (unclassified?) as University Staff. These employees used to be covered by the State of Wisconsin's Civil Service law and had collective bargaining rights. When this transition occurred, University Staff lost their collective bargaining rights.
Regent Policy Document 20-20 University Staff Governance--This is the Regent Policy that authorizes University Staff to participate in Shared Governance. It's important to note that this fills a hole that otherwise exists in Chapter 36, which recognizes the Shared Governance bodies of other employee groups (faculty, academic staff, and students), but not university staff.
Classified Employees Work Rules--This document outlines the kinds of actions/conduct that can trigger disciplinary action against a University Staff employee.
UW System Workplace Conduct Expectations--These guidelines apply to all UW System employees, not just University Staff.
